Get an immersive sound experience with Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound when you’re watching SkyShowtime on devices with the 5.1 technology built in.
What’s Dolby 5.1?
Dolby Digital 5.1 is a sound technology that adds realism and depth to TV shows, films and other types of programming. It does so by mixing different audio channels together. To give you an idea, here’s a breakdown of channels and the sound enhancements they provide:
-
Left, Center and Right: allow you to hear crisp and clean dialogue
-
Left Surround and Right Surround: make you feel like you’re in the middle of the action
-
Low-Frequency Effects (LFE) also referred to as “.1”: delivers deep, powerful bass effects that you can not only hear but also feel
Enabling Dolby Digital 5.1 on supported devices
Take a look at the list below for instructions on how to enable surround sound on supported devices as our SkyShowtime app doesn’t currently have native sound settings.
-
Android TV – sound output settings vary depending on make and model. Check your Android TV’s manufacturer manual or site for specific instructions.
-
PC – make sure the ‘Spatial Sound’ feature in the sound settings is switched on.
How do I know if I’m listening to SkyShowtime in Dolby Digital 5.1?
If you are using an audio receiver or soundbar, they should display the audio track channel information that they are getting from the SkyShowtime content you are playing.
I can’t listen to SkyShowtime in Dolby Digital 5.1 on my TV
If you are watching SkyShowtime content on a TV that doesn’t have Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound built in, only Dolby Digital 2.0 sound will playback.
I can’t enable surround sound on Chromecast
If you are mirroring SkyShowtime to a TV with Chromecast built in, but that TV has simple left and right Audio cables connected to a Dolby Digital 5.1 audio receiver, that set up won’t allow all Dolby Digital 5.1 sound channels to play out.
